KAIZER Chiefs defensive midfielder Enocent Mkhabela has
vowed to use the MultiChoice Diski Challenge to rehabilitate himself and earn his
place in the first team.
Mkhabela made his first appearance in Chiefs’ black and gold
colours when he played for the MDC team that recorded a goalless draw against
Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium on Sunday.
The 27-year-old is yet to make his debut in Steve Komphela’s
first team.
During pre-season training he twisted his knee, which has
kept him sidelined for the past three months.
Mkhabela joined Amakhosi in the June transfer window period
after being released by SuperSport United.
The player says when the opportunity to feature in the first
team comes he will grab it with both hands.
He said: “This was my first game since I joined the club. It
was a good game for me, coming back from a knee injury.
“I managed to play for more than 60 minutes, which is a good
sign.
“Playing in the MDC will help me get game-time and get to my
best level of fitness.
“But I’m taking it easy – one step at a time.”
The Mpumalanga born player is aware that breaking into the first
team won’t be easy: “I deserve to play for a big team. I’m not here by fluke or
mistake.
“You can be certain that I am up for the challenge.”
